Introducing you to a very recent release by Cpop singer “Pincess Ai” (戴愛玲) ft. PoeTeK (熊仔). The single “Burn (熊仔熊仔)” was released on 28th of September under Warner Music Taiwan.
This project seems to have had come together on a smaller budged than some of us are maybe used to. Nevertheless I think it’s interesting enough to check out. Really love the composition and arrangement of the track, the e-guitars bring me back to Jpop from mid 2000s.
Another thing I have to mention is the very well shot single cover. The colors, the styling… I can’t take my eyes off really beautiful.
The project below is a recent release (September 26, 2021) from an artist who goes by the name Gigi Yim. For a surprising fact, she seems to be 16 year old only.
Looking at the popularity of Cpop at the moment, it reminds me a lot to where Kpop was at, around 2009/2010.
From my observation of seeing companies, trends, and music like Jpop or Kpop rise in popularity, it’s very likely to me that Cpop also is to gain a huge global audience in the future. The Cpop market offers a lot of diversity in genre and artists.
As popularity changes things, my hope for this industry is, for them to protect their culture instead of westernizing themselves. I think it’s best for them to focus on increasing “quality” while bringing the culture itself to display.
Introducing you to singer, Alan Dawa Dolma, who is also known as just Alan. She has just released her music video “Morning Mist” early this month, September 7,2021.
The release is known to be followed up with a mini album but more information in relation to the album has yet to be announced.
Originally Alan debuted with her song “Ashita e no Sanka” in 2008 under the label Avex Trax.
With Kazuhito Kikuchi * as her producer, she has released a good amount of songs but later decided to focus on her activities in China.
*Kazuhito Kikuchi, is a composer who has created some major songs in Japan (e.g Ayumi Hamasaki, Koda Kumi, Every Little Thing).
To give you my personal opinion, Alan is one of my favorite artists to keep an eye on. She has a very distinctive singing style. The very high and pitchy singing technique you can hear in her songs, is called “the tibetan wail”. I have to add, that even among other singers who use this singing technique I have not heard anyone singing it in the way Alan does. It is more common to hear this kind of technique in traditional songs, but I love the idea of mixing that into pop songs.
Furthermore I’ve been familiar with her work since she debuted and from my perspective it clearly seems that she didn’t have it easy after her transition into the Chinese market. There was a phase where I couldn’t find much news about her. In the last few years, she started to perform more and more without releasing much new music. This year, I have seen her most active after leaving Japan and I’m happy to hear that she’s coming back with a new Album.
Keeping my fingers crossed for the Album to go well. I really hope Alan can finally find the recognition that she deserves.
This is just like I felt when I discovered JPop and years later KPop.
Just when I thought “Does music like this actually still exist?” I stumbled upon this song and I feel like it’s been years since a pop-song has touched me to tears like this.
There are regular plastic upbeat pop songs you can bop your head to, but there’s also such authentic songs like this. That said, not every ballad has authentic emotions in it, but I found one here. Something that I also find very unique, valuable and really appreciate, is, that some of the biggest artists in China are over 40 approaching their 50’s. It’s refreshing to see!
